Friends, Vivo launched its Vivo Y56 5G smartphone a while ago under ₹20,000, in the competitive 5G smartphone under ₹20000 segment. I had unboxed it earlier, and since then, many people have asked for a full review. So here I am with an honest review after using it for a whole month.
I have the gold color variant, which looks quite stylish. The back panel has a glossy finish that doesn’t easily show fingerprints or scratches. Its design closely resembles the Vivo Y100, but the Y56 doesn’t have a color-changing back panel.
There’s a box-style layout around the camera module that gives it a slightly unique look. The phone is lightweight and comes with flat edges, making it easy to use with one hand.

Display Experience
It features a 6.58-inch Full HD+ IPS LCD panel. The biggest downside for me is the lack of an AMOLED display. Honestly, if you’re someone who enjoys watching multimedia content, this phone might not be the right fit.
It also lacks a high refresh rate, so the scrolling experience feels pretty basic.
That said, outdoor brightness is good. Even under direct sunlight, the display remains clearly visible, which is definitely a plus.

Performance and Software
The Vivo Y56 5G is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6020 chipset, and its MediaTek Dimensity 6020 performance handles gaming and day-to-day tasks quite smoothly. I personally played PUBG and didn’t face any major lags or frame drops.
Its Funtouch OS is well optimized too. Apps open smoothly, and RAM management is impressive. I used the 8GB RAM and 128GB storage variant, and the phone handled multitasking without any issues.

Battery Life
The phone packs a 5000mAh battery, which easily lasts a full day with normal usage. Even with heavy use, you can expect around 6-7 hours of backup.
However, the charging speed is a bit disappointing. It only supports 18W charging, putting it behind many newer phones with 18W charging or more, whereas even phones under ₹15,000 now come with 33W fast charging. This phone takes nearly 2.5 hours to fully charge.
Camera Performance
It has a dual camera setup on the back, with a 50MP primary sensor and a 2MP secondary lens. The camera quality is actually quite good, especially in terms of detailing and natural color tones. For a device in this segment, it performs well as a best camera phone under ₹20000. Portrait shots also came out decent.
On the front, there’s a 16MP selfie camera. Selfies look natural and clear, and the background blur works well. For selfie lovers, this could be a good option.
Missing Features and Limitations
The biggest issue for me is the absence of an AMOLED display. Another major drawback is the lack of a high refresh rate. Both of these features are generally expected in this price range. A third issue is the slow charging — 18W feels outdated for this segment.
If this phone was priced around ₹14,000, it might have felt like a value-for-money option. But at ₹20,000, there are better alternatives in the market like the Realme 10 Pro, Poco X5 Pro, or Redmi Note 12. A Vivo Y56 vs Realme 10 Pro comparison clearly shows that the Realme device offers more value.

Should You Buy This Phone?
Let’s be straight, friends. The Vivo Y56 5G has some good things going for it, like design, a decent camera, and stable performance. But at ₹20,000, the lack of an AMOLED display, slow charging, and no high refresh rate are major letdowns.
If you just want a stylish phone with average performance and camera, you can go for it. But if you’re looking for a complete package, I’d suggest exploring other options. Personally, I wouldn’t recommend this phone.
